OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS

All of the funds our students raise during the Penny Harvest are their property to reinvest in their communities, so we rely on the generosity of individual supporters to support the program itself. There are various ways for you as an individual to help Common Cents:

Donate Now – Click here to make a monetary donation. Your support will help us in a variety of ways:
  • To continue producing service-learning curriculum for our teachers and Penny Harvest program tools for our students;
  • To pick up and recycle nearly 200 tons of pennies at the end of the Penny Harvest and turn them into usable funds for the students; and
  • To boost our marketing and fundraising efforts in order to expand the Penny Harvest program even further beyond NYC and bring its social and civic benefits to other communities around the globe.
School Sponsorship Opportunities – For $500, an individual can sponsor the Penny Harvest in one school, providing the teacher training, curriculum and tools that maximize the program's civic, social and academic benefits. On average, students in each school collect and give out $1,000 in grants to charities they choose (all from pennies!), making your $500 go even further to help people in need.

Sponsors receive an end of year report listing the causes and charities children in their sponsored school decided to support, and have the opportunity to visit their school and see student grant making in action. For more information on the school sponsorship program, please contact Erin Shakespeare at 212-579-0579 x111.

Federated Giving – If you work in a local, state or federal government institution, you may be able to allocate a small portion of your paycheck to help Common Cents continue with its mission to provide valuable civic and community service opportunities to tomorrow’s leaders. If you are interested in signing up for your agency’s federated giving program, please contact Erin Shakespeare at 212-579-0579 x111, or shakespeare@CommonCents.org.

Parental Involvement – Do you have a child in school? There are several opportunities for you to actively participate in the Penny Harvest right alongside your children. Go to a Penny Harvest location and click on the Families link to find out more.

Alumni Network – Did you serve as a Penny Harvester, SCAF member, volunteer or employee? You can still help! We have various opportunities for you to volunteer and support the Penny Harvest program. Go to the Volunteers and In-kind pages to learn more.

Volunteer Opportunities – We have numerous volunteer opportunities, and we need your help! Click here!

In-Kind Support – Since most of our funding goes towards running the Penny Harvest in 750 schools, we are always relying on the kindness of others to help us cut costs or meet other needs. Click here to learn more!
