CONGRATULATIONS PENNY HARVEST SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE!

July 11, 2007

We are pleased to announce the twenty-seven schools that were recently honored with the distinction of a Penny Harvest School of Excellence.  They are:

Bronx: PS 3, PS 64, PS 59, PS 121

Brooklyn: PS 116, PS 235, PS 112, PS 200, PS 335, PS 27

Manhattan: PS 1, Murry Bergtraum HS, The American Sign Language & English Lower School, Manhattan Center for Science & Math, The School at Columbia

Queens: PS 118, PS 174, JHS 190, PS 155, PS 215

Staten Island: PS 19, PS 6, PS 46, IS 72, PS 721

Long Island: Brookhaven Tech and W.T. Clarke Middle School

After an extensive application and review process, the NYC Penny Harvest Board of Directors selected these twenty-seven schools because of their abilities to implement the Penny Harvest at the highest educational standard for the benefit of students, the school, and the community.

This new category of accomplishment was designed to recognize schools who conduct exemplary Penny Harvest programs by engaging the entire community and integrating meaningful service with deep learning, without regard to how long the school has participated in the Penny Harvest. In fact, several of the Schools of Excellence are first year Penny Harvest schools!

These schools will serve as models for other Penny Harvest schools across the city and carry the Schools of Excellence distinction through the 07/08 school year.  Winning schools received certificates to share with their school communities and will also receive special recognition at the Penny Harvest at Rockefeller Center in December.

The Junior Donators Roundtable from PS 112 in Brooklyn, a recently awarded Penny Harvest School of Excellence, presents checks to the organizations to which they made grants.
