Students at Skyline Vista, a Title I school, collected the most sacks amongst all Penny Harvest schools in Colorado this year. Penny Harvest Coach, Callae Johancen, used The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein, as an example of what giving means. Callae also wanted the students of Skyline Vista to understand what it means to belong to a community and chose to invite representatives from the community to an all-school assembly to discuss what they do for their community. This included the Mayor, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Police and Fire Department as well.
What made Skyline Vista so successful this year was also in part to having supportive Principal. Stephanie Jackman strongly supported her students growth during the Penny Harvest and in turn helped keep momentum going at assemblies and in day to day activities.
Skyline Vista chose to grant their funds to one organization in their community. "It was good to see the pleased looks on their faces when speaking of their decision to give our funds to the District #50 Education Foundation to help students in need in our community. This is why Penny Harvest is important; it promotes the merging of philanthropy with a common cause in this day in age." Said Ms. Johancen.

In connection with The Giving Tree, students were able to keep count of pennies collected by the colors of the leaves.
